The Best Fried Chicken in Ohio — Belgrade’s
Have you ever had Serbian Fried Chicken?
Growing up for every family holiday in Ohio we would go up to Akron and get a bucket of fried chicken from Belgrade’s Garden. I acknowledge that there is nostalgia to this fried chicken which may skew my opinion, but I still felt the need to write about this restaurant. In my travels so far, I’ve been unable to find a fried chicken with the same unique and memorable taste as Belgrade’s.
The breading of the chicken is thinner, closer to the skin with a unique blend of spices that not only give the chicken skin a nice chew but also add flavor to the meat underneath as it mixes in with the natural fat juices.
Established in 1933 in Barberton, Ohio, the Belgrades’ Restaurant has been a family staple at all picnics and gatherings for many families in the area. The specialty to order is a large bucket of fried chicken, “djuvece” which is their hot sauce, coleslaw, and potato fries. Since their establishment, the menu has now expanded to contain more items such as cabbage rolls, sandwiches, and beef dishes however nothing comes close to their fried chicken.
In addition to the Barberton location, there is now a secondary location in Uniontown about 30 minutes away.
